Hello, my names James Kippax, and I own this site.
I’m a UK based scratch DJ who’s been performing since 1996. I’ve played at various clubs and festivals in the UK and abroad over the last two decades. If you’d like to book me to play at your gig, radio station, or fancy a colab just get in touch using this page.
I’m also a geek, web designer and writer. And I love my HI-FI gear, sound quality and a wide range of music. I’ll listen to everything from Tim Dog to Debussy. I’m also a massive BBC6 music fan (Steve La Mac FTW).
What’s this site is about
I created DJKippax.com back in 2006, primarily as a way to showcase my DJ mixes and scratching skills.
This site allows me to share my mixes, thoughts and ideas (the latter being my blog posts).
Here’s what I promise you:
- Honest and helpful content.
- Lot’s of free hip hop and classic house mixes. Available as 320 CBR MP3 and FLAC files.
- Links to useful stuff I find.
- Simple, clear and well written tutorials.
- Video tutorials and scratching videos.
- I explain how I build, maintain and promote this website. This website gets 1000’s of visits per month. And I’ve had well over 150,000+ mixtape downloads (not bad for an unknown DJ like me).
- A fast website experience which is easy to use.
- And I occasionally explain how I go about growing my fanbase, social media channels, and website visitors.
Here’s what you won’t get:
- Adverts
- Spam
- An arty farty website which prioritizes good looks over useable content.
- Intrusive auto playing videos
- Guest Posts (don’t waste your time contacting me about these, I’ve been doing SEO long enough to know what you’re up to).
- Paid links to other peoples websites, albums, tracks and content.
- Image carousels.
- Clickbait headlines.
- Copy posts & rehashed content
- Paid music/mixtape reviews. If you are a PR company reading this, please bugger off and stop adding me to your newsletters without my consent.
How do I follow you or get updated about new content?
Email is my preferred method of keeping in touch with people who want site/content updates. You can click here to join my mail list.
You can also have my mixes auto-delivered to your favourite podcasting app. Click here for details.
And here’s the rest of the places I lurk…
I can also be found on Facebook. Although, these days, Faceache usually buries my posts, so I tend not to rely on that site much.
Follow me on Twatter Twitter here.
And Mixcloud and Soundcloud.
Am I a good DJ? Why not make up your own mind
If you’re want to see my DJ’ing skills, just check out the videos below:
This one is very old (2008 I think). Hence the weird resolution.
Again this video is from 2014. Not recent by any standards.
Here are a few of the nice things people have said about my DJ mixes:
“There isn’t much these days musically that makes me as happy as this 75 minutes made me”. – Chris
“Every mix is brilliant. top scratching, ace tunes and I’m now waiting anxiously for a new mix to be delivered. Keep up the mint work” – Martin
“Nice to see someone with passion about all styles of old skool & is will to share (even track listings) & for free.” – Jim
“Great site you have set up here mate. And great choice in tunes. Nothing better than hearing a forgotten gem. keep up the good work” – Mike
“Downloaded this mix last night, and have been listening to it constantly since then. I really like how you have veered away from incorporating the usual old skool anthems”. – Lydia
“Just Ace ! love the mixes” – Ian
My business partner is one Frank the dog. Who’s constant gaze and sulking remind me that it’s probably now time to go for a walk.

Big thanks to everyone who visited this site over the years. And a shout out to the ones who keep coming back and asking me to make more mixes.
Thanks for reading.
